Seeing my daughter giggle and learn about the world shifts my whole mood toward this buzzing place of radical joy. I also enjoy the stillness of a quiet walk in the park or cozying up with a good book before bed. A hammock with a chilled beverage might be where you see me in the Summertime. Other times, picking up a new hobby makes me feel like I just turned on a big light bulb in my brain, which brings a smile to my face. I love laughing with friends and playing games, too. I feel like a big kid at heart.
what brought you to yoga?
I’d like to say it was just happenstance, but I think it began with searching for more love and kindness to squeeze into a very overworked schedule at the time. The universe clearly heard my request, and later that week, I was walking by a studio with a chalkboard advertisement out front that said 'free yoga class' encircled in a big, pink heart. There was literally the sign I was looking for! I popped in the yoga space right there on the spot, totally unprepared, wearing JEANS to my first-ever hot yoga class.
why do you do yoga?
I do yoga to feel present in the driver’s seat of my life in the here and the now. You know how sometimes time just seems to fly by? I feel like my yoga practice is a sacred time to slow down the speed of things and to just “be”. What an engaging way to balance attention between flowing with movement and accepting stillness in the mind. Yoga is a dynamic form of meditation for me, and I feel like I gain perspective on how to navigate my own existence each time I hit the mat. I learn how to not sweat the small stuff (while I sweat)!
